Oslo, Norway – February 19, 2012: The final day of the inaugural TTR 6Star World Snowboarding Championships played host to an amazing competition where Chas Guldemond (USA) and Spencer O’Brien (CAN) earned their 2012 Slopestyle World Champion titles. Chas and Spencer beat out an amazing group of riders today on the very progressive slopestyle course and were awarded $40,000 USD each for their outstanding riding. Sebastien Toutant (CAN) came in second place for the men followed by Seppe Smits (BEL) in third. On the women’s side, Jamie Anderson (USA) took second place and Enni Rukajarvi (FIN) finished in third.

The riders were greeted with sunshine and a perfectly manicured slopestyle course that started off with a three-option handrail, an option of four jibs, a set of two kickers, channel gap, option of two jibs and ended with a huge step-over jump. It was a dramatic final for the men and Chas took the win away from Canadian, Sebastien Toutant, at the very last minute of competition. Chas’ winning run was made up of a frontside blunt 270 out, frontside boardslide to 450 out, switch backside 1260, backside 1080, tailpress to backside 180 and ended with a huge Cab 1260. Chas was very excited about the event and his win saying, “It was an amazing day. I’m stoked to win the World Snowboarding Championships. This was the best event I’ve seen this year and in snowboarding so far.”

Canadian, Spencer O’Brien, took the win in the ladies field beating out the tough competition from American Jamie Anderson. Spencer was able to top Jamie’s lead with her last run that consisted of a frontside boardslide, noseslide, backside 540, switch backside 540, 50-50 and ended with a large frontside 720. Spencer had this to say about her newly acquired World Champion status, “It feels amazing. It’s still sinking in and the idea of being World Champion is so crazy. I’m so happy and so excited and so proud of all the girls.”

The first-ever TTR World Snowboarding Championships has come to a close and has crowned four new World Champions for the sport of snowboarding in slopestyle and halfpipe disciplines. The Halfpipe World Champions, Iouri Podladtchikov (SUI) and Kelly Clark (USA), were crowned last night. With the success of the inaugural event, TTR and the riders are already looking forward to the next edition slated to take place in 2015. Kezin: “De fotosessies in het park en de ‘rotsmodule’ die we bouwden met de rest van de crew… Oja, en enkele goeie feestjes!”

Fré: “De “Ik clear die hip wel even…” met Christophe! En hij deed het. Gek!” (Christophe Reynders, nvdr.)

Vinie: “Zoals altijd…de vriendschappen”

“Wat maakt dit evenement zo speciaal volgens jou?”

Kevin: “Coole mix tussen shooten, fun, elkaar motiveren en snowboarden natuurlijk!”

Julie: “Het is een uniek concept dat een hoog niveau nastreeft. De snowboard/ski-ervaring staat centraal staat en je krijgt er daarnaast ook nog tal van leuke extraatjes.”

Kezin: “De mensen die SnowClash organiseerden wisten erg goed wat de wensen van de sneeuwgenieter is. De clinics stonden centraal en dit is vernieuwend bij een snowtrip.”

Niels: “Omdat het bij SnowClash draait rond “back to the core”, niet zozeer de focus op feestjes, maar op skiën en plezier maken op je latten. Wij (Skisluts) worden mee in het verhaal betrokken en het brengt een nieuwe wind in het milieu. ”

Fré: “SnowClash is gewoon een unieke belevenis voor iedereen die zijn freestyle skills wil bijschaven en ondertussen ook leuke feestjes wil meepikken.”

Vinie: “Iedereen leert van elkaar bij. Er komen mensen samen, met dezelfde passie, die gemotiveerd zijn om echt iets bij te leren. Dit is een event voor alle snowboarders met ambitie, wat creatief vermogen en een beetje talent.”

“Wat verwacht je van deze tweede editie van SnowClash dit jaar?”

Kevin: “Er ligt ook een pipe in Avoriaz dus ik verwacht daar alvast veel actie van mezelf J Alles klinkt heel veelbelovend en ik kijk er al naar uit!”

Julie: “Hetzelfde concept maar kwalitatief nog iets beter. Een gestructureerd programma maar met uiteraard nog plaats voor crazy ideas J Ik ben er klaar voor!”

Kezin: “Zoals de eerste editie maar met nog meer randactiviteiten, party en snow… en aangezien de vorige meetings hierover al vrij productief waren twijfel ik hier niet aan.”

Niels: “Veel sfeer! Het mag/moet ook leerrijk zijn, we willen toch onze kwaliteiten als freestyle skier verbeteren na een week trainen met pro’s en internationals.”

Fré: “Minstens even goed als de eerste editie. Avoriaz is ook een super gebied, met een park zo dicht bij het dorp!”

Vinie: “Wellicht nog gekker dan vorig jaar! Ik stel nog enkele veranderingen voor, bijvoorbeeld: Kezin Vuylsteke die -eventueel met tegenzin- verantwoordelijk wordt voor de gillende 16jarige snowboard chicks. SnowBite fotograaf Pieter Van Impe die fotosessies houdt in zijn zwemshort -met duikbril- ter voorbereiding voor zijn triatlons. Shready die reports houdt in een middeleeuws decor. En veel sneeuwpret met vrienden en een vette avondsessie in het park!”

The 10^th anniversary of legendary week long Wängl Tängl snowboard, skateboard, music and art ‘Contest-ival’ will take place from the 17^th to 24^th of March, in its traditional home base of Mayrhofen, Austria.

Vans is stepping up its involvement in 2012 as the title sponsor of the event. The Off The Wall spirit will be alive at this birthday bash and celebration of boardsports culture.

2012 OPEN QUALIFICATION: SNOW

The 2012 Vans Wängl Tängl launches an all new open qualification format to create the heaviest gathering of shred crews on the continent at the notorious Vans Penken Park, customised for the event with the Red Bull End Section by  Ästhetikers Steve Gruber and Wolle Nyvelt.  

Previously the event has been “invite only” and the new format will open the event up to create a level playing field for the best crews in Europe to show up and gain notoriety at this legendary event.

Three person teams can register on a first come first served basis beginning the 1^st of December 2011.  The full details of registration and qualification will be available at http://wangltangl.com/ in the coming weeks.

The Main Mountain Event – The Tängl Team Tango!

The 16-team, head-to-head, knockout format Tängl Team main event is the highlight of the mountain based snowboard contest. Taking inspiration from our surfing brethren, no team is eliminated in the first round giving everyone a second chance to go for the 15,000 Euro (21,000 USD) total prize pool.

The event is and always will be, designed by riders for riders incorporating the unique “one team, one score” judging system.

Skating will take a new direction with a new location for 2012. Think concrete. More information to come soon.
