Winter wonderland

Na onze stop in Mount Baker en zijn legendarische banked slalom zijn we maandag de Canadese grens overgestoken en richting Okanagan vallei gereden, met eindbestemming Big White. De 400km durende rit ging door wondermooie winterwonderland taferelen en wilde natuur. Na een snelle pitstop in Kelowna – voedingswaren en outerwear shopping – sloegen we af van highway 33 richting Big White. Het tweedegrootste skigebied van British Columbia heeft zijn naam niet gestolen en wordt door de locals laconiek Big White-out genoemd omdat het er vaak zeer mistig is. Hoewel het resort deze twijfelachtige bijnaam draagt is de sneeuwkwaliteit er meestal wel uitstekend en dat hebben we zelf kunnen ondervinden. Vederlichte poedersneeuw tussen bomen die op perfecte afstand van elkaar staan op afdalingen met een ideale hellingsgraad. Elke snowboarder’s natte droom! › Continue reading

Terwijl Seppe Smits in spanning wacht op uitsluitsel over zijn Olympische deelname zijn wij onze drieweekse roadtrip naar de gaststad van de winterspelen begonnen in Seattle. Na wat shopping en het oppikken van de achtergebleven boardbags op de luchthaven van Seattle konden we eindelijk van onze eerste sneeuw proeven in Snoqualmie. Dit gebiedje ligt op driekwartier rijden van de grootste agglomeratie in de staat Washington en staat bekend om zijn divers snowpark.  › Continue reading
