David Vanden Boer uit Lommel, bijna 22 jaar, stond voor het eerst op een snowboard toen hij net 16 werd. David kreeg al snel de microbe te pakken. Twee jaar later nam hij een kijkje bij het Freestyle team van Snow Valley in Peer. Sindsdien krijgt de snowboarder les van de O’Neill Team Manager, Pascal Bosmans.
Naast indoor snowboarden gaat David maar al te graag naar het buitenland om daar nog meer ervaring op te doen. Zijn favoriete snow locatie bevindt zich in Les Arcs. David wil in de toekomst, samen met het O’Neill Snow Team, vooral progressie maken en deelnemen aan verschillende wedstrijden.
Vinnie Verrijt uit Achel, amper 14 jaar, was twee jaar geleden nog een fervente voetballer. Maar toen hij net 13 werd, wou hij zich vooral richten op snowboarden. Hij had de microbe onmiddellijk te pakken en weigert die los te laten. Deze jonge snowboarder heeft in een jaar tijd al ongelooflijk veel progressie gemaakt. Deze waaghals trekt zo goed als dagelijks naar Snow Valley in Peer. Daar krijgt hij les van zijn grote idool en tevens ook de O’Neill Team Manager, Pascal Bosmans.
Vinny droomt ervan om ooit op het podium te staan tijdens een BK in de discipline “Big Air” of “Slopestyle”. De ‘Benjamin’ van het O’Neill snowteam kan daarvoor alvast rekenen op de nodige steun en begeleiding van het volledige O’Neill Snow team.
Zijn naam is Pascal Bosmans, bijna 30 jaar en nog steeds even hard verslaafd aan het snowboarden als 16 jaar geleden. Pascal kreeg op 14 jarige leeftijd de snowboarden microbe te pakken. Twee jaar later leerde hij zijn eerste backside 360. Pascal was onmiddellijk verkocht aan het Freestyle snowboarden!

Beyonds’ international team just got reinforced in a big way. Their newest teamrider is the Belgian junior, Kevin Bronckaers (see cover SCSMAG 5.1). He already proved he can go big by winning the world rookie fest in Livigno last year and we expect to see much more from his this season. He loves big air and pipe riding and is looking for success in the Olympic pipe. His future is looking bright and Beyond is happy to have him on the team.
World Snowboarding Championships – Gangwon (South Korea) Victory for Markku Koski
At the latest leg of the World Snowboarding Championships in Gangwon (South Korea), Finnish rider and Team Quiksilver member Markku Koski took gold in the Big Air event. He emerged victorious in the final, after a very consistent run that included a cab 1080 and a backside rodeo 900.
It’s another award for the trophy cabinet of a rider who already has a strong of achievements to his name, including a bronze medal at the Turin Olympics in 2006 (for the Half Pipe), three podium finishes including two victories in the World Cup, and a double world title in the junior Half Pipe championships in 1997 and 1998.
Frenchman Mathieu Crépel, bronze medallist in the Half Pipe at the worlds in 2009, finished in 7th place in the Big Air event.
Victory for Travis Rice at the Winter X-Games (USA)
The winter’s biggest alternative sports meeting in the United States, the Winter X-Games, is currently taking place in Aspen. Team Quiksilver rider, Travis Rice, star of the film “That’s it, That’s All”, cruised to victory in this weekend’s Big Air Final with a double backflip backside 1080, an incredible three full turns.
Travis’ performance went down a storm with the spectators, and earned him 78% of the votes on offer in the final, compared with just 22% for his Norwegian rival Torstein Horgmo.
If you didn’t know, snowrockstar Danny Kass left Vans to go ride for Nike’s Snowboots. Seems like Nike pumped a hell lot of marketingbudget on the fact that Danny joined the team. Not only marketingwise, ‘cos Danny got the chance to design some ubersick signature boots. Nike will launch their European Snowboarding collection next season 2010.
